| Philippines is a country situated in Sout East Asia, made up of 7107 islands. The population of the country is about 98 million. Manila is the capital, and the most populated city in the country. |
There are two official languages, Filipino and English. Filipino is based on Tagalog, the main dialect of the country made up from different other dialects and languages, like Spanish.
The Philippines was a very important part of the Spanish empire for almost 350 years, and spanish names and surnames are very common all over the country.

The country can be divided in three main regions. Luzon, in the North, is where the capital Manila is. The Visayas, in the middle is where the main tourist destinations are. These destinations are Boracay, Bohol, Palawan or Coron, among others. In the south of the country, next to Borneo, is Mindanao.
The entire country is not far away from the equator, what makes the weather warm all year-round, especially in the regions of Visayas and Mindanao. |
